Microtia is a congenital birth defect where the outer ear is malformed or missing. It can occur on its own or be part of a more complex syndrome. It also occurs frequently with atresia, which is absence or closure of the external auditory ear canal.
Peter was born with left microtia/atresia. For him, it is part of a more involved condition called Goldenhar Syndrome.
